As host utility AGBAR has organised a visit to Barcelona's desalination plant, owned by the Company "ATLL" (Catalan Hydraulic Administration). AGBAR was the driving company in the joint venture that built the plant and will continue to operate this facility for the coming year. Beyond the site visit, AGBAR executives will discuss how this project has been structure to maximise its effectiveness. 

The state of the art desalination facility, in the Metropolitan area of Barcelona on the banks of the Llobregat river. This plant delivers 60 hm3 per year, providing supply security for the Barcelona region. With Europe becoming increasingly dry, even beyond the Mediterranean region, there has never been a better time to review this leading facility. This site visit will provide you with insights into-

• The technologies commisioned for the Barcelona plant, and review of why these were selected

• How the energy demands of desalination have been met, and how power requirements for the desalination process have been mitigated
